Effluent Shed Upgrade | Glenfield, NSW
Project Overview
When you’re operating critical infrastructure, protecting equipment from the elements can have a significant impact on long-term performance and maintenance requirements.
We worked with the project team on an upgrade to an existing effluent shed in Glenfield, NSW, providing the design, supply and installation of additional structural steel framing and wall cladding to improve enclosure and weather protection.
The project involved enclosing the rear gable end and one side bay of an existing 22.5m x 13.85m effluent shed with a 6.3m eave height and 15-degree gable roof. The solution incorporated structural steel framing, 0.42 BMT Colourbond® Trimdek wall cladding and matching 0.55 BMT flashings, integrated with existing concrete retaining walls and operational infrastructure.
The Challenge
Working within an existing operational facility requires a different approach to a new build.
The project needed to improve weather protection and enclosure without impacting the functionality of the existing infrastructure. The solution also needed to integrate with existing concrete walls, equipment platforms and services while maintaining access and operational efficiency.
As with many retrofit projects, understanding how the structure is currently used is just as important as understanding how it was originally designed.
Our Solution
We worked closely with the project team to design and install an enclosure solution that complemented the existing structure while improving protection from wind and weather exposure.
The scope included:
- Structural steel framing
- Rear gable wall enclosure
- Side bay wall enclosure
- Colourbond® Trimdek wall cladding
- Matching flashings and finishing details
- Engineering and project documentation
The result is a practical, durable solution designed to work with the existing facility while supporting ongoing operations.
Why It Matters
Infrastructure upgrades are often about solving a specific operational challenge rather than replacing an entire asset.
For this project, enclosing the shed created a more protected environment for equipment and operations while extending the functionality of the existing structure.
By integrating new structural steel and cladding with the existing facility, the project delivered a cost-effective improvement without the need for a complete rebuild.
