The Brief

Design and deliver a compliant commercial aircraft hangar that maximised aircraft access, operational efficiency and long-term performance.

The project required integration of an office and amenities space, fire separation to meet code, structural capacity for a large solar system, and a high-clearance door solution that enabled direct runway access and remote operation.

Our Innovative Solution

TechSpan partnered with Hunter Valley Hangars to develop a fully tailored solution aligned to aviation requirements and site conditions.

We designed, engineered and manufactured a 27m clear span hangar, eliminating internal columns to maximise usable floor area and aircraft manoeuvrability.

The structure was engineered to support a large on-roof solar system, enabling the facility to operate with a high level of energy independence when paired with backup generation.

A 20m wide x 6m high hydraulic tilt door was integrated, delivering full-width access, reliable weather sealing, and safe operation through built-in obstruction sensors. Remote functionality allows pilots to access the hangar efficiently on approach.

A 6m office and amenities area was incorporated, separated from the main hangar by a precast concrete fire wall to meet compliance requirements. External finishes combined architectural cladding to the office with COLORBOND® cladding to the main structure, creating a clean, professional outcome suited to a commercial aviation environment.

The result is a purpose-built facility designed for performance, compliance and operational efficiency.
