Hunter Valley Gliding Club were seeking a new Aircraft Hangar to safely store their fleet of gliders and tow aircraft. With some clear objectives in mind, they called on Techspan to deliver the design, engineering and manufacture of this purpose built aircraft hangar.
The Hunter Valley Gliding Club is located near singleton NSW. The club’s committee were seeking to install a brand new aircraft hangar to provide an efficient and secure facility to accomodate their fleet of gliding and towing aircraft. This project required maximum accessibility to both sides of the hangar including large opening to allow for the efficient ingress and egress of aircraft with large wingspans.

Our Innovative Solution
After reaching out to Techspan and stepping through our free design consultation, design and engineering and custom manufacturing stages, the result was a 15m wide x 60m long and 3.5m high structural steel building frame with cantilever roof trusses and colourbond external cladding and roofing.
Custom designed and manufactured bottom roll sliding doors were fitted to both sides of the 60m long building to maximise accessibility – allowing for large openings to accomodate aircraft with large wingspans. These doors also allow for an aircraft to be moved in or out of the hangar without having to move another aircraft – they are user friendly, low maintenance and very robust for heavy duty usage applications.
Use of high level cross bracing in this hangar ensured minimal interference and maximised storage and internal floor space. structural support for one 40 tonne or 2 x 20 tonne gantry cranes, HUGE 6.5m wide x 7.5m high custom top rail sliding doors and an ENORMOUS 8m wide x 40m long cantilevered awning to support all weather loading, additional workspace and protected project and/or material storage.
Once approved and the material procured, this steel structure hangar was manufactured in just 2 days, and once delivered to site, was installed in 20 days.
