Harwood Marine chose Techspan to design, manufacture and install a purpose-built boat building workshop shed, structured to work for their needs.
The boat building workshop needed to be large, and include large openings. The design had to incorporate a heavy-duty 15 tonne gantry crane. The building also required engineering for additional roof loading to allow for solar panels to be installed.
Site Erection Time:
Harwood Island, NSW
Size & Structure
27m (W) x 70m (L) x 10.5m (H)
- Structural Steel
- 15T Gantry Crane
- 20w x 10.0h Door Opening
- Bottom Roll Sliding Doors
Our Innovative Solution
The final shed design included a custom gantry rail to suit the 15-tonne gantry crane the client had already purchased second-hand for use in the shed, delivering savings compared to a brand new crane. The gantry crane makes it much easier, faster, and safer to move around heavy parts inside the shed.
To ensure easy access to the shed, the design included a large 20m wide by 10m high door opening. The doors are bottom roll sliding doors, to minimise the impact on the bottom track with equipment and boats moving in and out.
The shed was also engineered to allow for additional roof loading for the installation of solar panels to take advantage of the large roof area and reduce the power bill in the shed.
